BROTHERHOOD 101

I know this is probably the 1,001 blog post about "Brotherhood" in the fire service...Here is the "CLIFF NOTES" version

...But I feel some of us NEED a reminder of why we are here, and who we are here for. I do not go to work for myself, I go to work every 3rd day to Teach, Mentor, and Do The Right Thing EVERYDAY. To watch over my brothers and sisters, and to make sure we get to go home after our tour is over.

14 years ago when I got into the fire service was a different time then it is today. I understand myself living in the Midwest vs. other parts of the country could be different. Some of us are quick to judge others rather then hear their story. Are you on the payroll or are you in the brotherhood?

The only thing I am afraid of is failing my brothers and family, We are all here for the same reason. We are dedicated to providing the highest standard of service to the community through prevention, training, education and emergency services. Our purpose is to save lives, reduce injuries, and protect property." Do we all agree?

Lets talk about PRIDE for a second... What does Pride mean to you? What does the rig look like? is there dishes in the sink? is your SCBA full? Being a new guy V.S. a senior guy V.S. company officer is all the same when it comes to brotherhood & pride. Its all about helping each-other succeed in the common goal, Short term V.S. Long term, Why are you here?

There are 5 stages in your fire service carrier.

(1) Probationary Period- (2) Firefighter(3) Senior FF (4) Company Officer (5) Retirement

What stage are you currently in?

Are you fulfilling your role your are currently assigned?

Who are your mentors that got you here from where you started?

Every day you should be hungry for this job...I can help mentor your for this job by showing you the way of what I have learned. But if you have no desire to learn this job, we can not help you.

Think about it, what other job does the public trust you to help them in their time of need? To enter their home, come to their place of business with 100% of their trust to help the public in their time of need. They don't care what the problem is, They just want "US" to fix it, To save "THEM".

I could type all day on this subject, But what are you doing to better yourself and to make your company better then last day?

At the end of the day you want to leave the job better then you found it, while keeping tradition alive and understand the ways of how its done and why.

“Implementing Extreme Ownership requires checking your ego and operating with a high degree of humility. Admitting mistakes, taking ownership, and developing a plan to overcome challenges are integral to any successful team.”― Jocko Willink, U.S. Navy SEAL TEAM

Today is a new day, make it better then your last. Admit to your mistakes, Train to be better, Watch over each-other.

You have the BEST job in the world.

You are owed nothing, EVERYTHING is earned, Including RESPECT.

At the end of the day The senior man can and will be hard on you sometimes, but would he speak up if he didn't want to better you in this profession ?

We have a DUTY to act. We have PRIDE to preform, And TRADITION to show.

Stay Hungry ,Stay Focused...Love the job
